University Mental Health Day: Supporting Student Well-Being
March 13th, 2025 marks University Mental Health Day, an important event organised by Student Minds, the UK’s leading student mental health charity. This day is dedicated to raising awareness of mental health in higher education and encouraging students, universities, and communities to come together to support well-being.
University life can be exciting, challenging, and overwhelming all at once. Many students face pressures related to academic performance, social expectations, financial worries, and the transition to independence. Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet many students struggle in silence, unsure of where to seek support.
University Mental Health Day is about breaking the stigma around student mental health and ensuring that support is visible and accessible. It encourages universities to create open conversations, provide resources, and prioritise student well-being, recognising that mental health plays a crucial role in academic success and overall happiness.
At Teenage Mental Health (TMH), we support initiatives like this because we believe that no student should have to navigate their mental health struggles alone. Whether through university counselling services, peer support groups, or external therapy, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
This University Mental Health Day, we encourage students to:
✔ Check in with yourself and your friends – Mental health is a shared responsibility.
✔ Reach out for support if needed – Many services are available on and off campus.
✔ Take time for self-care – Your well-being matters just as much as your grades.
✔ Join the conversation – Awareness leads to change, and your voice matters!
University is a journey, and looking after your mental health is an essential part of it. Let’s make sure every student has the support they deserve.
Getting Help
We appreciate that timely mental health support can be difficult to find, and for university students, accessing help can feel even more daunting or complicated when living away from home. The pressures of balancing studies, social life, and independence can make it even harder to reach out.
That’s why at Teenage Mental Health (TMH), we offer remote counselling and therapy options, ensuring that any student, anywhere in the UK, can access timely, professional support when they need it most.
Whether you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, loneliness, academic pressure, or adjusting to university life, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Our remote therapy sessions provide a flexible and accessible way to get the help you need—whether you're studying locally or miles away from home.
Your mental health matters, and support should never feel out of reach.
